I don’t need to hear anything more How things will change in the New Year Time’s still rapping on the front door Hope and anxiety is still there New Year’s got me in its throes New Year, but who in the hell knows? Can’t shake the feeling in my chest Why can’t change be easier than this? New York’s still gonna be there Mountain’s far away but still there The years got me in a weird place And I wish things would stay the same Stay the same

about

** Cassettes available for purchase through Candlepin Records **

Mountain Laughed is the first full-length studio recording from Brooklyn’s Wandering Years. Channeling the melodic and melancholic sounds of early indie rock groups like Red House Painters, Low, and
Songs: Ohia, the album is a tender meditation on the seemingly relentless river of time experienced in the city. Sonically, tracks vary from quiet folk balladry (Grass, Rained Today) to more aggressive and
emotional leanings (Satori, News from Outside). Others, like Morning and New Year Song, have the immediacy of guitar-driven tunes from bands like Oasis or the Goo Goo Dolls. While previous releases
from Wandering Years have often been hushed and intimate, Mountain Laughed is expansive, catchy and direct. The addition of two electric guitars and a rhythm section provides a new and exciting dimension to Stroman’s introspective, diaristic lyricism. In Mountain Laughed, Stroman writes earnestly about finding stability in the quotidian – with songs describing the awkward awareness of his own adulthood at a Bushwick basement show or interstitial time spent off work at jury duty. Recorded in late 2022 into early 2023, the album was engineered by Kevin Copeland (Lightning Bug, The Big Net) at Science Is Magic Studios in Vermont and mixed/mastered by Bradford Krieger of Big Nice Studio (Friendship, Horse Jumper of Love).
